Our FAMventure groups took to the trees the weekend of November 7th-8th at the Bronx Zoo Treetop Adventures Ropes Course. Under unusually warm November temperatures and blue skies, FAM students and facilitators got a birds eye view as they challenged themselves to push past their limitations and reach new heights.

A ropes course experience mirrors real-life challenges, allowing a safe, novel environment to experiment with taking risks, recuperating from failures and celebrating achievements. The increased confidence and resilience that participants experience after completing a ropes course can impact the way they perceive the hurdles and opportunities of the real world.

“I definitely didn’t think I was going to be able to zipline across the river, but I’m glad – and amazed – that I did. At first, I kept talking myself out of it, because I couldn’t see myself actually doing it. But then, I did.” – Elbert, 11th grade FAM student

This is the second year in a row that Community of Unity has brought our FAM students to Treetop Adventures, thanks, in part, to the generosity of our partners over at Tree-Mendous. As before, our FAM students took risks and faced their fears with the support of their peers and FAM facilitators. It’s officially a tradition.
