School & Program Culture Development
Extending Our Impact
Every school is different—different missions, different populations, different personalities and different histories. Therefore each school requires diverse solutions. Our work helps schools create a clear, consistent and enthusiastically communicated school culture that supports success inside the classroom and out. CofU’s model of cultural development is what makes it so special—every student touched by its programs is given a platform to think mindfully about their purposes and their futures and make meaningful connections with their peers, teachers, families and communities.
CofU believes that holding a daily advisory period builds a school’s core, giving students the space they need to build relationships, challenge themselves socially and emotionally, and explore the meaning and purpose behind academic achievement. Breaking from core content to focus on the things that matter most to students gives each one the feeling of being heard, understood and valued.
Design For Life (DFL)
At New Design High School and Middle School, CofU incorporated a Design for Life (DFL) program, which takes the advisory model to the next step, utilizing design projects to draw out students’ most ethical, artistic, social, emotional, and intellectual selves.
