Community of Unity: In Celebration of Digital Learning Day

“To celebrate Digital Learning Day, CWP@Fairfield tapped into the brilliance of Ms. Megan O’Neill’s 1st graders at Hill Central Academy in New Haven, Connecticut. The yearlong professional development made available through a 2013-2014 High Needs grant has helped teachers to focus on the importance of community in writing activity systems and exploring digital tools for 21st century success. The work has also benefited from the expertise of NYC’s Eric Komoroff, Community of Unity, and the mission to help school-aged children in finding their SONG–that is, their unique potential to be great!”

NDMS Boy’s Basketball

Currently, the New Design Knights are playing in two leagues and have experienced success in both so far.  The first league, The Middle School basketball league (which boasts as the largest middle school league in the country with 300+ boys and girls teams) the Knights felt early success with two wins at home against P.S. 129 and P.S. 478, with those two wins the Knights were ranked 9th in New York City (All Boroughs).  Unfortunately, in the 3rd game of the season the Knights took their first loss to P.S. 218 which dropped us from the rankings.  However, the most recent win (1/15) the Knights won an intense battle against top ranked M.S. 322 with a score of 30-33.  8th grader, Jahlil Jackson has lead the way in scoring this year and performed strongly with 21 points in the win against M.S. 322.  The Knights have had strong game performances from Josh Allen, Abdoul Cherif, Darnell McGregor, Adonice Guzman, Kai Lomax and Greg Gray as well.

In the second league the Knights are involved in with Asphalt Green (which is played on Saturdays) NDMS has started the season with a 2-0 record.  A forfeit win against P.S. 149 and a dominant win against P.S. 108 (30-19) have given the Knights confidence early on in the season. The Knights are on a bye week from Asphalt Green this weekend due to the holiday but are looking to dominate in the future.

Thanks!

NDMS Flag Football!

The New Design Flag Football ended a successful first year in the Asphalt Green community league by placing 3rd overall.  The Knights brought home a 3rd place trophy when they beat Isaacs Center by a score of 32-13.  Karrell Richardson ended a fantastic year after scoring 4 touchdowns in the close out game.  Karrell finished with 15 touchdowns on the year.  Jahlil Jackson, Josh Allen, Malik Davis also helped Karrell lead the way with scoring 9, 7, and 8 touchdowns respectively. Our defense was lead with swarming defensive line lead by Morrys Cruz, Kelvin Rodriguez and Curtis Colston.  While there were particular standouts on the Knights this year that lead scoring and defense the team was successful because of great team chemistry, unselfishness, discipline, committment and enthusiasm.  Asphalt Green awarded Dwight Phillips, Malik Davis, and Josh Allen with the Student-Athlete Award, Sportsmanship Award and Team MVP, respectively.
